Super Saving Tips in the Supermarket Lane

GroceriesYour budget is tight and money is hard to come by nowadays. Don’t worry because you are not alone. Many more people around the world find themselves in this same predicament. Be it poor spending habits, not keeping with your budget, blowing away your emergency funds, or simply not saving anything when you had the chance, whatever the reason for your wallet being tight-lipped, the good news is you can always do something positive to help yourself.

You can begin with your basic purchases starting at the supermarket. Shopping for foodstuff and other grocery items can still be a walk-in-the-park experience even with diminished buying power. Here are a few super saver tips to help you spend your money wisely:

  • Discontinue your loyalty to leading brands that you’ve been accustomed to. There are other manufacturers that offer products with comparable quality to the leading brands at lower prices.
  • Arm yourself with a calculator. Consider it as a guardian angel. This way, you can compare prices of case sets sold in packs with individually sold items of the same kind. Also, it is a powerful tool that lets you keep a tab on your running total against your shopping budget.
  • Buy produce when they are in season. They are abundant, fresh, and most importantly, inexpensive. Learn the style of the farmer’s market.
  • Make it a habit to always check your grocery receipts when you get home. Even with highly attentive supermarket staff and today’s technology, a few mistakes still continue to pester shoppers. You sure don’t want to pay for something that didn’t come home with you.
  • Shelves that are about eye or chest levels are filled with popular items with the highest markup costs. Bend down or reach up and scan the shelves for cheaper brands.
  • Check the local dailies’ weekly food supplements for food items that are on sale.
  • Don’t find yourself staying too long in a discount store. Just because you’re in one does not automatically mean you’re going to get great bargains. Discount stores do not necessarily imply that they have the best prices.
  • Keep those coupons that are found in magazines and newspapers. They will come in handy. If possible, combine a manufacturer’s coupons with a supermarket’s own coupons.
  • Don’t shop when you are hungry or tired. You will tend to buy more food that you really don’t need.
  • Keep your hands and eyes off on those non-grocery items inside groceries. They are usually priced higher.
  • Scour the shelves for locally made products.
  • If you are a parent with little kids, try to shop without them or when you are alone. Your cutie tykes won’t be so adorable once they begin grabbing for those lovable items that are not on your list with your budget taking the beating.

Now, wasn’t that easy. You can now work on rebuilding your wallet’s confidence again. Use the savings to patch up your financial state and watch it grow healthy once more.
